Mission/Vision/Goals

Dear Portland Plaza Residents,

It is hard to believe summer 2007 is ending soon so I hope you all enjoyed the fabulous annual Portland Plaza BBQ we enjoyed last Sunday with a follow up on Monday evening.  The Social Committee is highly commended for the planning, orchestration and clean up to make certain people ate well and had a memorable time.  Thanks, too, to those who contributed their culinary expertise and shared their favorite foods. If you missed it this year’s BBQ be sure to put it on your calendar next August.

Well-run organizations whether for profit or not-for-profit continuously evaluate the results they’re getting from their business strategies, so as Chair of a new Board of Directors in April 2007 I supported holding a Board retreat where we focused on evaluating where Portland Plaza is today and where we ought to be by 2009.

At the last Portland Plaza Board meeting, August 29, 2007 the Board approved the contents of two documents to guide us through the remainder of our Board tenure which ends after the next annual election in late March 2008. You can view both of these documents in the password protected section of this website.

Portland Plaza Governance Model: Board Leadership, Accountability, Principles and Process. We are providing you copies of the Governance Model we created to guide us in carrying out our responsibilities including policy-making,  planning and overseeing the day-to-day management of the Plaza to consistently provide high quality resident services and ensure safety and security.

Portland Plaza Strategic Business Plan: Mission, Vision, 2007/2008 Goals, a living document which currently includes a total of 40 collective Board and Committee objectives. In December 2007 expect a report about how we are making progress toward achieving our 2007/ 2008 Goals:

The Board’s process for getting to this point has included several hours of working together.  We had a four hour facilitated Board retreat on April 22, 2007 and follow-up mini retreat on August 22, 2007.  During the interim four months we initiated an All Committee Chair Meeting and follow up committee chair meetings to learn about their ideas about what would make Portland Plaza a Great Place to Live and collect their objectives.  Portland Plaza Committees are very active and committed to continuously improving our home’s exterior, infrastructure, interior common areas and community interactions so that we are all proud to own and live at Portland Plaza, Portland’s “first” condominium.

During August the Board received four resident letters from people who were concerned enough to commit time to articulate their thoughts and recommend ideas and remedies for Plaza enhancements.  As Board president I strongly encourage you to attend our monthly Board and committee meetings to learn about what our committees are studying and how they are working together to keep Portland Plaza competitive with the expanding condominium market.  We need the benefit of fresh ideas and resident participation to help us make timely and informed decisions. Through increased alignment of committee and resident actions the Plaza can create Plaza synergies to ensure Portland Plaza remains a leader in Downtown livability.

Best wishes for a happy and healthy up-coming autumn season.

Sincerely,

Walter Grebe
